South Side Demolition and Asbestos Removal
|
What is demolition?
Demolition is the opposite of construction: the pulling-down of buildings, plant and structures. It contrasts with deconstruction, which is the taking down of a building while carefully trying to salvage as many items as possible for recycling.
What do South Side Demolition & Asbestos Removal recycle from demolition?
Bricks and concrete
All clean bricks and concrete goes to a concrete crushing plant where it is crushed and sorted for use in many applications including:
- Hardstands
- Under slab fill
- Bedding or backfill of large pipes
- Paths, driveways
- Drainage
- And the list goes on
Timber
Old timber from buildings, wharfs, warehouses and railways etc. is a very sought after product from timberyards, they prepare it for uses like:
- Flooring
- Bench tops
- Decking
- Structural timber
- furniture
- Doors
- Turned timber legs etc
- And the list goes on
Scrap metal
Scrap metal is divided into two types: ferrous and nonferrous. Ferrous scrap is scrap iron and steel. This includes scrap from old cars, household appliances, steel beams, railroad tracks, ships, and food packaging and other containers.
Nonferrous scrap metal is scrap metal other than iron and steel. Examples of nonferrous scrap include aluminium - including foil and cans, copper, lead, zinc, nickel, titanium, cobalt, chromium, and precious metals. Although there is less nonferrous scrap than ferrous scrap, it is often worth more financially. Millions of tonnes of nonferrous scrap metal are recovered by processors and consumed by secondary smelter, refiners, ingot makers, fabricators, foundries, and other industries.
Other materials such as timber that was not salvagable and vegetation that had been cleared will be sent to power stations or similar for burning to save the use of burning coal.
